Jake Paul vs Tommy Fury – Will it ever happen, or is it just a social media frenzy

Posted 15 Jan 2023

Tommy Fury vs Jake Paul is another highly anticipated fight set to take place next month. According to the latest reports, the fight date has been changed by one day and will now be played on Sunday, February 26.

The fight has been agreed upon for the third time in Saudi Arabia following two previous meetings. Jake Paul and Tommy Fury decided to fight each other for the first time on December 19, 2021, in Florida. However, the fight didn't occur as Brit pulled out of the contest late due to a broken rib and bacterial chest infection. After Brit pulled himself out of the battle, Jake Paul played against Tyron Woodley, who stepped in for a rematch and knocked him out.

Eight months later, on August 6, 2022, the duo signed for the second time, and this time, the showdown took place in New York. And when everything was going according to plan to see the pair take on each other finally, Fury's travel visa was denied by the United States of America, and he had to pull out of the race for the second time.

Since the fight got cancelled for the second time, the two have taken on each on social media. That said, considering the hate, hype, and anticipation of the fight would make this fight a doozy, as both fighters are likely to earn a bag of money.

After playing his last game against Rolly Lambert in an exhibition bout, Brit will face his first legitimate opponent in the form of Fury, whose last fight came against Anderson Silva.

After this drama, it looked like Jake Paul and fans had given up on the fight, with the former ending up playing Anderson Silva two months later, in October 2022, where he floored the UFC legend and beat him by a unanimous decision, making his tally 6-0, moreover.

Not long after the fight was cancelled for the second time, negotiations started to fight with Tommy Fury for the third time late last year (December 2022), and at the start of this month, a deal got signed between the duo once again.

Jake Paul made a name for himself in boxing in 2020 after he won against a social media personality, AnEsonGib. Since that first fight, Paul has fought five more times and holds a 100% win record. His most recent fight was against Anderson Silva, where he dropped and outpointed the 47-year-old UFC legend.

On the other hand, his opponent, Tommy Fury, the younger brother of World heavyweight boxing champion Tyson Fury, also owns a perfect record as a pro boxer. That said, Tommy is 8-0 (with four knockout wins). However, he is back in the ring after a year since his last fight (against Daniel Bocianski in London in April 2022).

Fight Date

After the deal was signed for the fight, it was initially reported that the highly anticipated battle would occur on February 25 in Saudi Arabia. However, as mentioned above, a new date of one day late was announced, meaning the fight now would take place on February 26, 2023.

The change had to be made because retired 50-0 boxer Floyd Mayweather announced, facing Geordie Shore’s Aaron Chalmers in an exhibition fight on February 25 at the O2 Arena in London.

That said, Paul vs Fury date got changed by one day. According to Ariel Helwani, combat sports journalist, the much-awaited fight is all set to take on Sunday, February 26.

He gave an example, saying; that two YouTube people get to set it out and battle it out for the king of the YouTubers.

"It’s going to be fun, and I expect my brother Tommy Fury to chin him. If he doesn’t, he can stay in Saudi Arabia.”
